In Vancouver, there is the third Chinese community in North America, after those of SF and LA. The Chinese landed during the gold rush and above ten years later, in 1881, for construction of the railway. Arrived by the hundreds, they worked hard to accumulate a small nest egg that, once back in China, would have allowed them to live comfortably their family. But most of them settled on the spot, retaining their custom and their community spirit, creating the historic Chinatown of the city, east of Downtown.
Currently, the Asian community gathers nearly a third of the population of Vancouver has two TV channels, three radio stations and many newspapers. Their financial and property right, the fact that they often go to English schools and want to build completely Chinese (uni-lingual understanding) tend, as in the past, to be not very well perceived by the "pale faces". It is not uncommon for passersby or customers send you to speak Mandarin or Cantonese directly! Perhaps we should be there save! Namely, friends born in 1985, we are the Year of the Ox / Ox (牛) .. The "Beef " is described as dictatorial, determined, and rebellious. Sunday was held on New Year's parade for the occasion and we let ourselves be guided by Josh through Chinatown, gardens, old buildings and restaurant! I'm still a fan of Chinese gardens, but I am still a beginner in terms of food (it's still rich!).
Admire the magnificent trick anti-rain and the police were here, happy and smiling, which distribute candy!
We received a quarter (25 cent piece) chocolate in exchange for a "good year" version Cantana discovered our horoscope shaking a bucket containing sticks, tested many Charlotte Chinese games and even had the right coloring her "rabbit" on the cheek! The scenery was guaranteed a nice Sunday .... rain!
